New provincial elected for the Province of St. John the Baptist in Peru

 

At the Convent of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Quillabamba, the Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. John the Baptist of Peru, on January 26, 2026, elected fr. Luis Galindo Silva, OP, as the new Prior Provincial. Upon confirmation by the Master of the Order, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner, OP, fr. Luis accepted the election.

Fr. Luis Galindo Silva was born on June 21, 1974, in Chontalí–Jaén (Cajamarca). He made his first profession in the Order of Preachers on March 10, 1996, and was ordained to the priesthood on December 8, 2001. He completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical and Civil Faculty of Theology of Lima (1995–2000). He holds licentiate degrees in Spirituality and Moral Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum) (2004–2007).

He has served as Vocations Promoter and Novice Master in Peru, and as Student Master in the Vice-Province of St. Catherine of Siena in Ecuador. He has also served as Regent of Studies, Promoter of the Dominican Laity, superior, and pastor in the parishes of St. Rose of Lima in Chiclayo, St. Thomas in Quito, and St. Peter Martyr in Trujillo. As part of the CIDALC team, he served as Promoter of Formation and Intellectual Life (2019–2022).

He has taught as Professor of Scripture and Moral Theology at the Seminary of St. Anthony Abbot in Cusco and at the Seminary of St. Charles and St. Marcellus in Trujillo. He is also an accredited pilgrimage guide in the Holy Land (Israel), a pastoral ministry he carries out by organizing itinerant pilgrimage groups each year. During the past year, he served as Prior of the Convent of St. Dominic in Lima.
