New prior provincial elected for the Province of Bohemia

The friars of the Province of Bohemia have elected fr. Filip Bohá?, OP, as their new Prior Provincial. The election was confirmed by the Master of the Order on 27 January 2026.

Fr. Filip Bohá? was born in 1978 in Prague as the eldest of five children. His family life was marked by a strong ecclesial commitment: his father was ordained a permanent deacon in 1999. Before entering religious life, fr. Filip studied architecture in Prague. During these years he was actively involved in non-governmental organizations promoting sustainable urban transport and participated in scouting, experiences that helped shape his pastoral and social sensitivity.

He entered the Order of Preachers in 2006. After completing the novitiate year in Olomouc, he pursued philosophical and theological studies in Bordeaux and Toulouse. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2013 and then returned to Prague, where he has exercised much of his ministry.

In the Prague priory, fr. Filip served first as subprior and, since 2017, as prior for three consecutive terms. He has also served as socius of the provincial since 2018. During these years, he oversaw significant restoration works of the conventual buildings, combining pastoral leadership with careful stewardship of the Order’s historical patrimony.

Alongside his conventual responsibilities, fr. Filip has been deeply engaged in cultural and intellectual outreach. He played a central role in Dominikánská 8, a cultural and educational platform fostering reflection on contemporary social, cultural, and religious questions from a Christian perspective. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, this initiative has expanded online and has become one of the most influential voices in public debate within the Czech Church.

Fr. Filip is also active in the arts. As a dramaturge, he collaborates with Jan Horák and his wife Zuzana and has contributed to the creation of several theatrical productions. He co-directs a creative space, Solná v?ž, located within the Prague convent, which serves as a meeting point for artistic and cultural initiatives. Additionally, he is a co-founder of Apsida, a Center for Mental and Spiritual Care that offers psychotherapy, spiritual accompaniment, and confession, responding to contemporary needs for integrated human and spiritual support.

Founded around the turn of the 14th century (c. 1300), today the Province of Bohemia comprises 28 friars serving in four priories.

The Order of Preachers entrusts his ministry to the Lord and asks for prayers for him and for the friars of the Province of Bohemia as they begin this new chapter together.
