Prior provincial re-elected by the Province of Poland
KRAKOW — On January 31, 2026, during the sixth day of the Provincial Chapter of the Polish Province of the Order of Preachers, the brothers re-elected ?ukasz Wi?niewski, OP as provincial for a second four-year term. The election was formally confirmed by the Master of the Order, Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, the same day.
The Chapter was held at the Holy Trinity Convent in Kraków and gathered 55 friars representing all the priories and houses of the Province. As he begins his second mandate, fr. ?ukasz will be responsible for leading the 400 members of the province, who serve in more than 20 countries. The Province of Poland was founded in 1228, by St. Hyacinth (Jacek) Odrow??.
Fr. ?ukasz Wi?niewski, OP, was born on February 17, 1984, in Pas??k. He entered the Order of Preachers in 2003 and made his solemn profession in 2009. Ordained to the priesthood on May 21, 2011, he holds a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, where he defended a dissertation entitled, “The Ecclesiastical Instinct of Faith.”
Prior to his first election as Provincial in 2022, Fr. Wi?niewski served the Province in several roles, including academic chaplain in Pozna?, prior of Holy Trinity Priory in Kraków, and lecturer in dogmatic theology at the College of Philosophy and Theology. At 41 years of age, he begins his second term with the confidence of his brothers and the confirmation of the Order, entrusted once more with guiding the Polish Province in its life of preaching, study, and common mission.
