Registration open for Extraordinary Music Workshop 2026 in Kraków

Registration is now open for the Extraordinary Music Workshop (EMW) 2026, the largest liturgical music conference in Europe, organized by the Dominican Liturgical Center of Kraków. The workshop will take place 6–12 July 2026 at the medieval Priory of Holy Trinity in the heart of Kraków’s Old Town, bringing together members of the Dominican Family and lovers of sacred music from around the world.

Each summer, EMW gathers more than 450 singers, musicians, and students for an immersive week of workshops, concerts, liturgies, and conferences dedicated to the Church’s musical heritage. Since 2021, the program has included workshops, liturgies, and talks in English, welcoming an increasingly international group of participants.

Now in its 11th edition, having first begun in 2013, the Extraordinary Music Workshop is designed to help participants encounter the profound beauty of the Church’s ancient musical traditions in their organic development and in the spirit of continuity envisioned by the Second Vatican Council. For this reason, the program offers formation in Gregorian chant, Byzantine chant, and sacred polyphony, both traditional and contemporary.

Over the years, EMW’s faculty have included Dominican friars and internationally recognized musicians and scholars, among them professors from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music as well as composers, conductors, and specialists from Europe, North America, and Australia.

For the 2026 edition, participants will be able to:

  • Study choral music with Dr. Elena Bird-Zolnick and Mr. Christopher Mueller
  • Learn Gregorian chant with Prof. Susi Ferfoglia and Prof. Micha? S?awecki
  • Explore the rich tradition of Byzantine chant with Mr. Andriy Shkrabyuk

Beyond technical formation, the workshop emphasizes prayer, fraternity, and the integration of sacred music into the Church’s liturgical life, offering a uniquely Dominican approach that unites study, contemplation, and preaching through beauty. This year’s retreat master is fr. Matthew Jarvis, OP.
